It's the best storage around. Clean, reasonably priced and super convenient. There are times that I don't get off of work until 7pm, of all the other storage facilities close at that time, but the Old Barn stays open until 11pm, I LOVE THAT!

The place is nice enough and generally clean. However they charged me an additional $20.77 for tenant insurance without any prior notification (which is illegal in California). They require tenant's carry insurance or they will add in this charge, and I'm fine with that. I had previously given them a copy of my homeowners policy in order to avoid this charge. When my policy renewal came up, they never asked me for my new policy. Instead they just added this charge to my account without notification or my consent- a VERY shady practice! If they had just sent me an email or letter asking for my insurance renewal, I would've sent them my new policy to avoid the charge. But they never did that. When I saw the charge on my credit card, I sent my renewed policy to the manager at Old Barn and asked them to refund (or credit me) for the $20.77. However they refused to give me a credit. I asked the manager to ask their boss to refund the money, and they told me they would. But I never heard another word. So they basically stole money from me. I would not rent from here again because of the lack of communication and shady practices.

After the initial "first 3 months 50% off" deal, they raised my monthly rent by $34 / month for a small sized unit! PLUS.. what they don't tell you anywhere on the website is that you are required to purchase their insurance (add $23/mo for my size unit). At other storage facilities I've been able to provide my own proof of insurance. I feel duped. The facility is very well kept and maintained, but not worth what I'm paying for a small unit.

9 times out of 10 we go the gate is wide open. Especially when the building isn't staffed. I used to call and complain but gave up when the lady who normally answers the phone continued to always be rude and tell me it wasn't true that I saw the gate stuck open. They tell you to report the problem every time but when you do they ask you if you have called the right place and ask if you are sure you have a unit there multiple times. Even after you have said I'm calling bc we have a unit here and the gate was open all weekend. I don't appreciate being made to feel as if I am so stupid I don't know who I am calling. They also say the issue has never been reported before but I know myself and my spouse have both reported this issue previously. For this review I acknowledge my name won't come up as a customer as it is my spouses name on the contract but we access the unit together and have both encountered these issues together. Today when calling I asked if I could be provided with how many times my gate code has been used since September or October after being told I was inaccurate about the fact that consistently for the last six months or more the gate is often wide open. Especially on weekends. Blake said he could provide me that information and then asked why. I stated that we have stopped putting our code in when the gate is wide open bc what's the point. Aka the number he was going to provided me about how many times it had been used would be way less than the actual amount of times we have been there. Therefore proving that the gate isn't functional most of the time. He instead focused on how I need to still put in my gate code and how important that is. My response is yah it's also important you address the issue that the gate is often wide open. He then proceeded to hang up. We also had things melt together in our climate controlled storage unit as it's often hotter in there then it is outside in the summer months. Sentimental things that can't be replaced. When calling about this issue I was told that there is no way that is accurate bc a new system was put in there a handful of years ago. I was told this by a female who answered the phone. (Different call then today). I was also told today by Blake that the facility is staffed all day on Saturday. I said we usually come after 6pm and as late as 10pm and then I said so those hours are staffed on Saturdays and he replied yes. Which is completely inaccurate as thier business hours state they close at 6 and we have also tried to access the office to talk about these issues in person in the afternoons on Saturdays and the office is locked with a closed sign. I have definitely never seen a staff member later in the evenings after 6 either. Which makes sense as that is what the business hours state but according to Blake today the building is staffed during these times. So if you want to pay for climate control that doesn't really work and a gate/security that doesn't function right and be called a liar. Then rent here.
